The Power of Essential Oils on Breast Cancer
When you think of essential oils you may flashback to the days when you splashed a bit of patchouli or rose oil because you liked the way it smelled. But if you do a search of “essential oils and cancer,” there are over 700 references and almost all of them show that essential oils can kill cancer cells – at least in an experimental model.
It is another beautiful example of how Mother Nature has provided natural solutions to what ails us. So when you focus on Repairing Your Body with Therapeutic Plants as part of your healing or prevention journey, you may want to consider adding essential oils to it.
According to Wikipedia, essential oils are concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants, or basically the blood” of the plant. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for cosmetic use, emotional uplifting as well as medicinal use.

The great protectors against Breast Cancer: Chamomile, thyme, frankincense
In a study that was published at the end of last year, researchers tested the healing properties of 10 of the most popular essential oils – mint, ginger, lemon, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, chamomile, thyme, rose and cinnamon – and found that jasmine, chamomile, thyme and cinnamon were significantly potent against Breast Cancer cell lines.
Researchers tested the antibacterial potency and the in vitro (Latin for “in glass”) toxicology against human cancer cell lines.
When it came to Breast Cancer cell lines, they were destroyed more consistently by jasmine, chamomile, thyme and cinnamon. However, chamomile killed up to 93% of them and thyme oil killed up to 97% of the MCF-7 Breast Cancer cells.
Frankincense, also known as boswellia serrata, has been used for thousands of years to support the body. In a another study researchers uncovered the cancer-killing properties of frankincense with ovarian cancer. Using the compound AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid), they were able to show frankincense’s ability to target cancer cells in late-stage ovarian cancer patients. Best of all, there were no side effects.
Boswellia can also boost the immune system, which we know is critical to overall health. In a study published by Phytotherapy Research, mice were given 1-10 mg of Boswellia serrata orally stimulating multiple levels of their immune systems. Astoundingly, frankincense boosted the immune system by proliferating white blood cells, the body’s primary defense team, and by keeping inflammation in check (we know this is the root of most chronic diseases).
Essentially, it’s up to you
The benefits of essential oils can be gained topically, when inhaled, or ingested.
When applied topically, they are absorbed into the blood stream. On inhalation using an essential oil diffuser, humidifier, smelling the bottle or pot of boiling water, essential oils are absorbed into the lungs. Ingesting is also an option, however, you should work with someone who is very knowledgeable about essential oils.
I would caution that quality is key. Many essential oils are synthetically produced and diluted with alcohol and other additives. To be effective, only 100% pure therapeutic grade quality essential oils must be used, otherwise you will not obtain the health benefits.
If you’re interested in learning more about essential oils, there are several reputable companies such as doTerrahttps://www.mydoterra.com/naturepower/#/essentialOils101.
